Kagman, SSHS rule PSS co-ed outrigger races

KAGMAN and Saipan Southern high schools topped the debut races of the Public School System co-ed outrigger competition on Saturday morning at Kilili Beach.

Although the events were considered “no-points” races, KHS and SSHS still went all out in displaying their speed and strength.

In the preliminaries of the 500m race, KHS stood tall as they ruled the men’s and co-ed divisions.

In the men’s division, the team recorded a finish time of 03:05.87 while SSHS came in second at 03:11.76 and Marianas High School was third at 04:02.83.

KHS also topped the co-ed division, clocking 03:26.26. SSHS came in second with a time of 03:42.98 while MHS was third at 04:18.60.

SSHS finished first in the women’s division with a time of 03:44.38 with KHS coming in second at 03:55.90 and MHS in  third place, clocking 04:04.03.

Second heat

In the second heat — also known as the finals round — SSHS took over the scene.

They clinched first place in the men’s finals with a finish time of 03:06.85, edging KHS, who settled for second place at 03:12.13 while MHS came in third with a time of 03:42.55.

SSHS also excelled in the co-ed finals as they cleared the course first with a time of 03:44.13 followed by KHS  with a finish time of 03:46.04 and MHS in third place with a time of 04:19.73.

As for the women’s division, KHS managed to turn the tide as they claimed top spot with a time of 03:39.10 while SSHS took second place at 03:06.82 and MHS came in third at 03:42.55.

1,000m race

SSHS ruled the short course but KHS showcased their stamina in the long-distance race.

In the preliminaries, SSHS notched the top spots in the women’s division with a finish time of 07:56.41, and in the  co-ed division with a time of 07:42.70.

 KHS, which claimed the men’s division with a finish time of 07:07.96, seemed to have reserved their energy for where it mattered most: the finals.

They topped the men’s division with a time of 07:02.23 beating SSHS who came in second at 07:47.21 while MHS finished third at 08:38.90.

KHS bagged another first-place finish, this time in the co-ed division, clocking 07:39.40 while MHS moved up to second place with a time of 08:28.69. SSHS, which struggled to find their rhythm, came in third at 13:02.99.

But SSHS reigned in the women’s division with a time of 08:01.42 with KHS finishing second at 08:16.40 and MHS in third place, clocking 08:33.16.
