Samoa News has reported that the owner of the MYD Samoa shipyard in Pago Pago, the MYD Marine of Florida, is sending to the territory the MV Navagnate for inter-island service if a deal is sealed with the territorial government.
It said this came to light following a meeting late last week in Apia, between MYD’s founder and chairman Dan DelMonico and American Samoa Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources Director Ufagafa Ray Tulafono.
Samoa News said the two main topics discussed during the meeting were the financial and water transportation crisis faced by the territory and MYD’s business license that reportedly has been withheld by the governor for more than two years.
However, DelMonico offered to resolve both issues by sending MV Navagante to American Samoa at no cost to the government.
DelMonico has further offered to send his senior captain and senior engineer from the U.S. mainland, at no cost to the government, to train a local crew that would run this state-of-the-art vessel.
