“Getting these machines are still our dream for CHC so it can better serve our community as a whole,” said CHC Volunteers Association vice president Annie M. Benavente in a statement.
She said the hyperbaric chamber can assist divers with decompression illness, and can also treat diabetic wounds that can prevent amputation.
The hyperbaric chamber can also help stroke victims recover quicker and more fully, she added.
“There are many benefits which this machine can provide to our community as a whole.”
Fiesta Resort & Spa, through its Chambre Bar’s healthy lunch weekday menu, is helping the CHC Volunteers raise funds.
For every lunch sold from Monday to Friday, a $1 donation goes to the CHC Volunteers’ project, like hyperbaric chamber and a multi-slice CT scan machine, Benavente said.
The maximum number of lunches served each day is only 40, therefore reservation is necessary, she added.
“The CHC Volunteers extend their humble gratitude to the Fiesta Resort & Spa staff and management for this generous offer and commitment of choosing us as their beneficiary,” Benavente said.
She added, “The CHC Volunteers would like to appeal to the community to consider being a part of this huge project and worthy cause to help raise the much needed funds to make this project a success.”
The volunteers have been trying to raise funds for the purchase of the two machines since 2006.
In that year, the Legislature appropriated $300,000 for the project.
But due to the economic situation and the lack of government funds, the $300,00 had been re-appropriated for more urgent needs, statement said.
