Letter to the Editor: It’s a wonderful NMI after all!

One of the best places to relax and enjoy the beach is down south at the Pakpak beach park south of P.I.C. resort club. The best place on the island to sift thru the sand and collect sand-glasses that we’re once from the Magellan’s wreck at Agingan point and got washed and smoothened into collectable shapes of wonder. Go walking down all the way to Fina’ Tano point and collect treasures of these cool sand-glasses!

Beach road highway is the best in all of the Pacific islands I have visited over my lifetime! Oops, Actually it is also the best beach walk that it is…strolling, biking, skating and romantic hand-in-hand walking along Beach road/walk way. Permeating breeze accompanied by nice looking ladies always benefit your time spent walking up and down this stretch of road we are all so proud to be a part of.

Saipan is home of the world’s second most craved-for underwater cave diving spot! Divers from Japan and other very interesting corners of the globe find their way to Saipan to experience diving at the “Grotto” That makes me so proud to be a Saipanese. The sweetest sweet potato (kamuti) comes from Rota where they promote the island as “Delicious” for all the good reason. And of course, Tinian is hot and beautiful! Ever try Tinian’s 101proof hot sauce? You can’t find them anywhere in the world but the island of Tinian, where the first atomic bomb was flown in a plane to promote peace that ended WWII.

The H1N1 flu made its way to Saipan but the numbers of confirmed cases does not mandate an extreme emergency. The seasonal flu was more predominant and God’s blessing gave us hope in that up to now, no death has resulted due to the threat of the Swine Flu. Praise God!

Reliable power from CUC is now a reality. Other than for isolated problems in the surrounding areas, we can now look forward to light, light, and more light from CUC. We ought to make a big farewell party for Agrekko for lending us a hand in time of great need for power. Its okay, just for awhile, people we’re calling it C.U.REKKO but now we captured back our original name-CUC!

While hardware stores are all waiting for weather disturbances so they can sell their goods, I never stopped praying for weather clearance! For the past couple years, the CNMI was spared from devastating typhoons. Only surf warnings came abundantly but that’s okay-time for the Colonel to go surfing or wind-surfing or occasionally you can find me and Fred body surfing and showing off to the Japanese tourist who just loves to see me and Fred frolic in the water.

The Public School System will be serving excellently good tasting menu for our children. I drool when reading the papers-I pretended I am ordering from the restaurant for my kids at Dandan Elementary School when I was telling them not to miss eating lunch at the cafeteria for my two sons can eat the size of two living rooms, and two bed rooms and some extras too, just give them a break and they can finish the whole buffet!

Politics is politics. Family is family, and talking politics is just that, nothing personal, after politics is done, we all fall back to just being the same good ole island people that we are. In politics we shout! At the parties we dance and have a good time. Have you ever gone to a political fundraiser? They’re all dancing; politics becomes silent for awhile when family, friends, and colleagues come together. At least this is how I would like our politics to be.

Wow! Governor Fitial, Goro, Kilili, MVA, Saipan Chamber of Commerce, are now all in one accord…delay federalization! If the House and the Senate can follow the same course, we can all have a breather before ke sera sera, whatever federalization will bring. Delaying it is excellent for a lot of good reasons!

You don’t have to be so financially pressed with paying for your house. The Northern Marianas Housing Corporation has an emergency regulations in place to help you. Go talk to the folks at NMHC and ask them how they can assist you with your home loans. This program is so borrower-friendly and designed to assist the disadvantaged.

We have four people running for governor. That’s very good in fact because now we have more choices and the opportunity to choose the one with the highest educational attainment and leadership experience. This is important because anyone shall not be a governor just because he wants to! More and more female leadership are about to enter the arena too. It is highly plausible that we may have two new female senators, or one male and one female Saipan senators after Nov. 7, 2009. We also stand to have the first female mayor if the lone female mayoral candidate is successful. Finally, the mayor’s office then will be represented in terms of a bright CNMI flower.

More and more in the CNMI are becoming P.I.R.’s — Person in Recovery — and recovering continuously from meth-addiction. People who were meth-pushers and abusers before are now legitimate business people, workers, and many became family oriented and some even turned to now being drug counselors. On payday, we buy Rice, not Ice!

You see, living in the CNMI can still be your coolest thing. Look for the plentiful good reasons why living here can brighten your day so go on and  tell all the bad things to come kiss your um, and roll along! This is our CNMI, and it’s still wonderful after all! En fin serafin.
