Oct. 1 and 2 declared national holidays

In Presidential Proclamation No. 09-09, Toribiong declares Oct. 1, as the day that Palau will celebrate Independence Day while Oct. 2 will be the date that the national government will celebrate United Nations Day.

A separate presidential proclamation meanwhile set the Olechotel Belau Fair from Oct. 1 to Oct. 2.“It would be more efficient and in the best interest of the Republic of Palau to celebrate United Nations Day on Oct.2 instead of Oct. 23 so that the employees of the National government can enjoy the Olechotel Belau Fair throughout the uninterrupted two-day period and instead of report to work as usual on Friday Oct. 23,” the president said in his proclamation. The fair meanwhile will coincide with these holidays. The Olechotel Belau Fair is a celebration of Palau’s unique and distinct culture and traditions and bring the entire Republic of the community together to celebrate the country’s heritage. He added that during these holidays, all employees of the national government will be placed on leave with pay on Oct. 1 and 2 except those employees whose duties require that they report to work.
