21st House, Saipan delegation file pending bills before adjourning

THE House of Representatives and the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation have filed the bills that were not passed by the 21st Legislature.

The delegation unanimously adopted floor leader Vinnie Sablan’s motion to file the pending bills during the delegation’s final session on Tuesday.

The delegation had six pending local bills still in committees.

The House also filed its pending measures as moved by House Floor Leader John Paul Sablan during their final session on Wednesday.

Of the 130 bills introduced, 79 were passed by the House while 34, including salary hike and tax measures, remained in committees.

Of the 79 bills that were passed by the House, 40 were passed by the Senate and 29 were signed into law while two were vetoed by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres.

Thirty-nine House bills were still in the Senate while four remained in the bicameral conference committee.

The House then adopted all its 26 journals and filed a few Senate bills that were still in House committees.

Also during their final session, the members of the 21st House thanked and applauded each other for two years of “working together” in the face of economic challenges. They also wished each other good luck and expressed hope for the 22nd Legislature whose members will be sworn in on Monday.
