ERIC Poon will be stepping down soon as the construction manager of Imperial Pacific International, according to IPI Chief Executive Officer Ray N. Yumul.
Poon, who oversaw the construction of IPI casino-hotel, regularly reported its progress to the Commonwealth Casino Commission, which will meet today, Jan. 27.
In January 2021, the federal court issued a stop order at the casino construction site. IPI’s casino shut down in March 2020 amid the onset of the Covid-19 global pandemic.
Yumul, in an interview, said that Poon performed well as construction manager while informing the government and the public about issues related to the hotel-casino project. Yumul said IPI wishes Poon all the best.
Poon plans to move to San Diego, California with his family.
Yumul said IPI will likely ask Poon to complete certain tasks before leaving the island. These include the removal of the cranes at the unfinished hotel-casino building.
Yumul said right now, Jess Aquiningoc is in-charge of the crane removal. “We work together and discuss the matter every day,” the CEO added.
IPI has already requested the Department of Public Safety to assist in minimizing traffic around the area while the cranes are being removed.
As for Poon’s successor, Yumul said IPI may reinstate a former employee who was involved in construction but was furloughed last year.
The two cranes at the unfinished Imperial Pacific International casino-hotel in Garapan are scheduled to be dismantled this week.
