Fire department completes renovation of its Capital Hill buildings

THE Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services has completed the renovation of its buildings on Capital Hill.

DFEMS public information officer Robert Mojica said these buildings will be utilized by the Division of Fire Prevention and Arson Investigation or DFPAI, the Office of Emergency Medical Services or EMS Records and Data, Administrative Office, and the DFEMS Command Center.

Mojica said DFPAI provides information to the public about fire safety and protocols for buildings, as well as the proper codes for building inspection.

He noted that DFPAI’s new location is near the CNMI Treasury office, a “convenient distance” for those who need to pay for their permits.

He said the Office of Emergency Medical Services’ records and data’s new location will also allow for the convenient payment of dues such as ambulance usage bills.

“As a result of this centralized location, the DFEMS administrative services personnel are provided more office space to efficiently and accurately coordinate record-keeping and file management services,” he added.

As for the completed Office of the Commissioner and Command Center, he said it will be “utilized by DFEMS officers and personnel for purposes of strategizing, conducting meetings and conferences, and executing duties.”

Mojica said the “new buildings will not only support the services of DFEMS personnel and lay the foundation for future growth, they will also contribute to the efficiency, effectivity, and ability of the DFEMS in keeping the people of the Commonwealth safe.”

He said after the fire division was separated from the Department of Public Safety and became the Department of Fire & EMS, it operated at the Susupe Fire Station.

Mojica said Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and DFEMS Commissioner Dennis Mendiola want to separate the administrative function from emergency service to “prevent any impediment” of the fire station’s vital services.

Mojica said DFEMS will soon start renovating its fire stations.
