Saipan Billiards Association honors teams, players

THE Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball League marked the end of the season with an awards banquet that honored the winning teams and their outstanding players Sunday at Rendezvous restaurant.

Tuesday Division

Jerry Soriano won the Tuesday Division’s Run the Rack Award as the only player to pocket all balls in one turn for a total of eight times in the season.

Winning the 8 Ball on Break Award was Rowel “Cobra” Mariano while the Top Gun awardee is Rolly Villanueva with 19 points.

As for the Most Valuable Player in the elimination rounds and finals, Jerry Soriano claimed both titles.

Thursday Division

In the Thursday Division, the Run the Rack Award was shared by three players: Victor Formales, Ray Matsunaga and Lito Pangelinan.

As for the 8 Ball on Break awardees, they were Rey Hermogenes and Chris Camacho.

The Top Gun Award went to Randy David who garnered 20 points while Jess Farinas was named Rookie of the Year.

The MVP honors went to Rey Hermogenes in the elimination rounds and Eric Baugh in the finals.

Team awards

The Budweiser Cup champions of the  Tuesday Division are the Last Shot IT&E Destroyers: Nolan Cultura, Jeff Garcia, George Lizardo, Cesar Sangalang, Rey Pinangay, RJ Mascarinas, Roman Rodriguez, and Rolly Villanueva.

For the Thursday Division, the Just Chillin’ SCS were triumphant:  Rowel “Cobra” Mariano, Bryan Fabre, Jerry Tiu, Ken Chen, Kari Zhu, Lisa Marcelo, Daniel Miranda and Dhan Mateo.

The Tuesday Division regular season championship title was won by Bamboo MJD Marianas Water No Mercy: Jerry Soriano, Joseph Achas, Patrick “Stallion” Cepeda, Randy Sablan, Phil Kalen, Ray “Stingray” Matsunaga, Roel Barretto, Mervin Sahagun and Marvin Deocares.

As for the Thursday Division, the Marpac Eagle’s Eye earned the trophy: Chester Hamoy, Rolly Villanueva, Eric Baugh, Nilo Panes, Zaldy Quebral and Warlee Ellama.

Finishing second in the Tuesday Division were the Last Shot IT&E Destroyers while the Arcee 9 Eleven Hustlers placed third.

In the Thursday Division, the Bamboo Club 88 Black Ball finished second  while the Bamboo Tres Marias MJD Warriors settled for third place.

Appreciation

The Saipan Billiards Association also presented plaques of appreciation to Marpac and Last Shot Bar, and thanked its other sponsors: 9Eleven Restobar, Just Chillin’ Saipan, Bamboo Bar, VFW Post 3457, DECM Construction, MJD Corporation, Saipan Computer Service, IT&E, Marianas Water, Club 88, Arcee and Saipan Magalahi Eagle’s Club.
