THE Saipan Pacific Lions Club crowned Ronnel Calma and Jean Camacho as “Lion King & Queen of 2021” in the Royal Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort on Sunday evening.
Nelly and Rocel Ramos were named 1st runner up while Shirley and Mario Salilim received the 2nd runner up award.
Judges for the event were Marianas Top Model coordinator Sharmaine Casquero, SM Saipan Marianas owner Marie Javier and Diocese of Chalan Kanoa finance officer Sherwin Pasillos.
Saipan Pacific Lions Club president Christopher Manalo told Variety that it was their first time to hold such an event which raised more than $8,000.
Manalo, who is also the operator and owner of Ahbhu Auto Care Center in Dandan, said they were hoping to raise $7,000 so they could build a school bus stop shelter.
A portion of the actual proceeds will also help fund the club’s health fair set for Dec. 11, Manalo added.
He said last month, their club provided assistance to residents of two villages in the northern Philippine province of Ilocos Sur which was devastated by a recent typhoon.
Manalo said the club provided food packages and clothing to the typhoon victims.
Last month, the club’s fundraising event was a golf tournament whose proceeds went to Karidat and a health fair.
Like all Lions Clubs, Manalo said Saipan Pacific’s goal is to serve the community.
