2 Guam Community College students awarded scholarships

MANGILAO, Guam (GCC) — The Felix M. and Governor Carlos G. Camacho Scholarship Foundation recently awarded two Guam Community College  students with scholarships starting Fall 2021. Both recipients are working towards an Associates in Science or AS in their chosen field. McEllie Garcia, is pursuing an AS in Accounting and Aira May Ngalongalo, is working towards an AS in Liberal Arts – Business.

Garcia and Ngalongalo were selected among numerous applicants and will receive a total of $2,000, distributed up to two-years in increments of $500 per semester. Garcia and Ngalongaol will have to maintain their eligibility for the scholarship they will receive over two-years.

Garcia is a 21-year-old Yigo resident and a graduate of Simon Sanchez High School. She is a full-time student who works two part-time jobs to pay for her education and day-to-day living expenses. Garcia thanked the Camacho Scholarship Foundation, saying “Because of your generous donation, a heavy burden has been lifted off my shoulders. My educational pursuits would not be possible without generous support from scholarship sponsors like your organization.”

Ngalongalo is a 20-year old graduate of Kagman High School in Saipan. She is the first generation in her family to attend college, and shared her gratitude on being selected as a recipient. “I moved to Guam from Saipan to pursue my major in Business and hope to graduate with an undergraduate bachelor’s degree as well as showing my potential to the world. I am blessed to have the opportunity to receive a scholarship from your foundation,” Ngalongalo shared.

The scholarship is open to all full-time students enrolled in Liberal Studies — Business track, Accounting, Marketing, Supervision and Management AS degree program, who are residents of Guam. The applicant must be in the upper 25% of their high school graduating class and hold a cumulative grade point average for his/her high school career of at least 3.0.
