WITH Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios off-island, Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider is now the acting governor, Variety learned.
Article 3, Section 8 of the CNMI Constitution states: “When the governor is physically absent from the Commonwealth, the lieutenant governor shall be acting governor. If the lieutenant governor is also absent or is otherwise unavailable, the presiding officer of the Senate shall be acting governor.”
Governor Torres is on Guam while Lt. Governor Palacios is in Hawaii for a medical check-up and will return to Saipan this week.
Variety learned that a cocktail fundraiser organized by the Committee to Elect Governor Torres and his running mate, Senate Floor Leader Vinnie F. Sablan, will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 17 at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort.
