ON Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, the local judiciary issued a memorandum informing staff that an employee tested positive for Covid-19. The diagnosed individual was not present in the Guma’ Hustisia in the days preceding the positive test result.
The safety of judiciary employees and court patrons continues to be the number one priority.
“Judiciary facilities on Saipan, Rota, and Tinian are equipped with hand sanitizers, face masks, general sanitization supplies, UVC disinfection equipment, and offices, courtrooms, and other common areas are routinely sanitized. The Judiciary has been proactive in the fight against Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic,” said Director of Courts Sonia A. Camacho.
“In early-2021, the judiciary completed its hallmark screening and security zone with funds provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. The Screening and Security Zone includes a waiting area, large enough to comply with social distancing precautions. UV-ray light technology is also utilized in the queue area and other parts of the Guma’ Hustisia to disinfect the air, surfaces, and patrons’ personal belongings.”
Additionally, on Nov. 2, 2021, the NMI Supreme Court announced, via Supreme Court Administrative Order No. 2021-ADM-0017-MSC, that effective Dec. 3, 2021, all employees must be vaccinated for Covid-19 or undergo weekly Covid-19 testing to assist in Commonwealth-wide efforts to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
Currently, nearly 95% of judiciary employees are vaccinated.
