PRIME is close to solidifying a comfortable spot heading into the playoffs in the Ladies Division of the 2025 Allied Pacific Environmental Corporation Basketball League after outlasting the Hericanes, 41-36, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Both teams entered the game with a lot at stake — Prime aiming to lock in a top playoff position, and the Hericanes looking to play spoiler and end their season on a high note.
What unfolded was a fast-paced, physical contest that saw momentum swing multiple times before Prime’s second-half adjustments sealed the win.
The Hericanes came out with urgency, pushing the tempo early and pressuring Prime into turnovers. Balanced work from Kaia Travilla and Alliyah Fernandez led the early offensive onslaught, scoring eight and four points, respectively.
Their defense was also a key factor, frustrating Prime’s shooters with aggressive closeouts and full-court pressure that limited second-chance opportunities. By halftime, the Hericanes led by a single possession, 21-19.
Prime regrouped during the break and returned with a new strategy. Their offensive rally was sparked by defensive stops and improved ball control. Azriel Fatialofa drew defenders in and kicked the ball out to open shooters, including Yasmeen Younis, who caught fire from beyond the arc and knocked down four three-pointers to erase the deficit and help Prime take the lead.
The Hericanes struggled to keep pace late in the game. Although they stayed within striking distance, they couldn’t halt Prime’s momentum and ultimately fell, 41-36.
In the other matchup, the MP Raiders eased past the Beach Front Ballers, 23-14.
