ZHI Min Jin brought home the Ladies Flight title while Nick Sablan topped the Senior Flight category of the Rotary Club of Saipan’s Goodwill Golf Classic at Coral Ocean Golf Resort on Saturday.
Zhi started strong on the front nine with birdies on par-3 Hole 3 and par-4 Hole 5, followed by four at-par shots for a score of 39.
She was a couple of strokes behind Sherlyn Jones on the back nine, but Zhi shot even par on four holes, good enough to score a total of 82 and win the Ladies Flight title.
For her part, Jones fired four at-par shots on the front nine and four on the back to finish second overall with a score of 83.
Ma Ae Jeon shot even par on three holes on the front, and on three holes on the back nine to place third with a score of 85 while Lim Hyun Sook settled for fourth place with a score of 85.
Senior Flight, C Flight
Nick Sablan, the most senior player in the Seniors Flight category, defeated younger golfers including Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho, a member of the NMI’s Pacific Mini Games team.
Sablan had two bogeys on the front nine but birdied Hole 9 to tie Camacho with a score of 37.
Sablan then edged Camacho on the back nine to earn a total score of 76 and win the Senior Flight title. Camacho finished second with a score of 77.
Taking third place was Ben Duenas who did well on the front nine, shooting 38, but fell behind on the back nine, firing 40 for a total score of 78.
Joe Tudela improved his score from 41 on the front nine to 38 on the back to finish fourth with a total score of 79.
In the C Flight category, Bart Jackson shot three pars on the front and four on the back to notch a score of 84 which earned him the title.
Dave Jones shot 86 to finish second; Chris Leon Guerrero, 88, was third; and Sean Frink, 89, was fourth.
