LILY Muldoon and Eason Tang finished first in their respective divisions of the 2021 Northern Marianas Athletics Mt. Tapochao Turkey Trot Virtual Run which was held from Thursday to Saturday.
It was a virtual event, but NMA officials Ramon Tebuteb, Robin Sapong and Edward Dela Cruz Jr., along with other members, set it up as if it was a physical race: the actual course was marked with cones, and an aid station was set up at a designated point for social distancing hydration.
Muldoon, one of the island’s top runners, clocked at 44:46 to take first place overall. Following behind in the women’s division was Audrey Christley with a time of 50:31.
Gabi Race was third with a time of 51:51; Ayano Braxton was fourth, 53:34; while Kimiko McKagen finished fifth, 54:02.
In the men’s division, Eason Tang clocked in at 45:47 to claim the top spot.
In second place was Michael Denevan, 45:49; Daniel Yang was third, 50:00; Carter Calma, fourth, 50:13; and Jeff Race, fifth, 51:06.
It was supposed to be an in-person race, but because of the recent Covid-19 cases in the community, it became a virtual event.
“Given the current situation, overall, we are thankful to host a hybrid version of this year’s event,” NMA’s Sapong said. “We are looking forward to an in-person event next year. Many thanks to our supporters, runners, and partners for making this year’s event a success.”
