CNMI SBDC Network to feature David Burger as guest speaker for Boots to Business Training event

(CNMI SBDC) — The CNMI Small Business Development Center Network is proud to announce long-time CNMI resident and Certified Public Accountant David Burger as one of its guest speakers for Tuesday’s Boots to Business training event that will be happening in-person at the Napu Room of the Pacific Islands Club, Saipan.

Burger is the managing partner of Burger & Comer, P.C. and will be joining Kenneth Q. Lujan, branch manager of the Guam Branch Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration and Dennis Kwak, director of the Pacific for the Veterans Business Outreach Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The CNMI SBDC is calling on all veterans and military service men and women who are interested in starting a business or expanding their existing one.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., SBDC will be partnering with the U.S. Small Business Administration to bring “Boots to Business,” an in-person training opportunity open to Service members including National Guard and Reservists, and/or their military spouses who are interested in honing in on their entrepreneurial skills.

The eight-hour training event, designed to provide participants with an overview of business ownership, is part of the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program.

Among a list of topics discussing legal considerations for veteran-owned small businesses, Burger will cover some specifics below:

• Understanding the various legal forms of small business entities: types and pros & cons of each

• How owners are paid, taxed, and types of liabilities they are exposed to

•  Selecting Your BAIL (banking, accounting, insurance and legal) team

• Basic requirements of government contracting

•  Importance of seeking legal counsel

The presentation will allow for questions & answers between participants and Burger, with opportunities for additional discussion with our special guest speakers.

Nadine C. Deleon Guerrero, network director of the CNMI SBDC, expresses her gratitude for Burger, “Many of our events are possible through partnerships with qualified individuals who see the value in providing direct assistance to our small business community. Dave is an exceptional and respected professional in our business community, and we are extremely thankful for his dedication towards helping our veterans become more equipped to be successful in their entrepreneurial ventures. If you are a military service member and are interested in learning more about business ownership, we encourage you to attend. This training event is a great way to not only seek assistance from our credentialed experts, but connect with like-minded individuals who can help you network with the right people towards realizing your dreams of becoming a business owner one day.”
