(Press Release) — The Saipan Chamber of Commerce met with the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce & Industry from Gwangju, South Korea to initiate conversations of a partnership between the two organizations on May 23, 2022 at Laolao Bay Golf Resort, Saipan.
In attendance for the meeting was Chairman Jung Chang-Sun, Vice Chairman Park Chul-Hong, and Vice Chairman Sang-Won Han of the Gwanju CCI. In attendance representing the SCC was President, Joe Guerrero, Board Member Alex Sablan, Board Member Velma Palacios, and Executive Director, Lee Tenorio, together with Dave Guerrero, Commonwealth Economic Development Authority economic development manager.
Chairman Jung Chang-Sun shared the Gwangju CCI’s background and how they stive to help with the development of their member companies and local community. The Gwangju CCI has been contributing to the strengthening and promotion of the competitiveness of commerce and industry by pursuing the common interests of its members and making recommendations to the central and local governments.
“We are excited to network and collaborate with other chamber networks within our region, but even more from the international areas around us to learn more about different trends and changes the economy has towards business development and retention in their cities”, said SCC President, Joe Guerrero. “The SCC looks forward to seeing more visits to Saipan by Gwangju CCI members and for potential investments.”
The SCC in turn shared a brief history of the SCC and how its mission to empower our enterprises as a resource, advocate and connector for Saipan’s private sector has been influenced throughout the years. Additionally, Board Member Alex Sablan shared efforts achieved through the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors in rebuilding our economy after the halt caused by the pandemic.
“It was a great opportunity and a wonderful meeting with the CCI officials, led by Chairman, Jung Chang-sun,” said Board Member Velma Palacios. “We hope this first partnership meeting will lead to many more opportunities for us (the SCC) to collaborate with Gwangju CCI, which has over 2,000 members representing various industries in Gwangju city.”
