FOUNDED in October 2022 by Jasmine Johanson and Linz Wang, Saipan Dance Studio is for child and adult beginners as well as intermediate and advanced dancers.
“We aim to convey the happiness of dance and allow our students to fall in love with dance and build confidence,” Johanson said.
Wang and Johanson are graduates of professional dance schools and have taught over a thousand students, many of whom have participated in various dance competitions and activities.
“The motivation behind establishing a dance institution in Saipan is due to the rich cultural and artistic atmosphere that this place possesses,” Johanson said. “Such an environment provides us with a great opportunity to create a favorable artistic educational environment for the children on the island.”
Saipan Dance Studio, which teaches ballet, hip-hop, contemporary, jazz and lyrical dance, now has 85 students of all ages.
“We hope that through continuous cultural performances, we can help drive tourism,” Johanson said.
Dance for love
Last month, at the Visitor Center of American Memorial Park, Saipan Dance Studio, in collaboration with Saipan Music and Dance School, hosted “Dance For Love” which showcased the skills learned by their students during the past months.
“These dance performances were the result of a two-month training and rehearsal period for children of various ages,” Wang said.
She said it was amazing to witness the young students perform on stage.
Johanson and Wang are grateful for the support of their sponsors.
“They include I Love Saipan, and we extend our gratitude to them for providing pink t-shirts to all of our students. We are also grateful to Saipan Mayor Ramon B. Camacho for awarding certificates to all of the children who participated,” Wang said.
Johanson said they are likewise thankful to Star Water for providing drinking water; Japanese Store and Smiley Playground for providing gift certificates; and Ms. Roxan, “an excellent entrepreneur, for her support.”
“Without these sponsors, we would not have been able to have such a successful event,” Johanson said.
She also expressed her gratitude to the supportive parents of the dancers and to the children themselves.
“The most crucial element that has contributed to the success of Saipan Studio is, of course, the continuous support from parents who have entrusted their children to us. We are grateful for their trust and confidence. We also extend our appreciation to the children for their hard work and dedication which has made all of this no longer an unattainable dream,” Johanson said.
