SHRM meeting to discuss CNMI Labor regulations

(Press Release) —  SHRM CNMI Chapter will host a general membership meeting in the Regency Ballroom, Hyatt Regency Saipan on Thursday, June 23,  starting at 12 noon. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m.

Jacqueline A. Nicolas, administrative hearing officer at the CNMI Department of Labor, will be discussing applicable CNMI DOL regulations, as it applies to administrative cases and hearings for labor and compliance agency cases.

For the SHRM meeting, the following fees apply:

$25 for members

$35 for non-members

One person per one entry. One representative may submit multiple entries for each participant under their company.

About the guest speaker

Jacqueline A. Nicolas first moved to the CNMI in 2015, when she clerked for Superior Court Judge Teresa K. Kim Tenorio. During her clerkship, Nicolas contributed to the creation of the CNMI’s first local drug court program.

At the end of 2017, she was sworn into the CNMI Bar and joined the Civil Division of the CNMI Office of the Attorney General, where she represented agencies, such as the Department of Labor, the Marianas Visitors Authority, and the Procurement and Supply Division of the Department of Finance.

In 2019, she became the Department of Labor’s administrative hearing officer.

As the administrative hearing officer, Nicolas presides over labor cases, compliance agency cases, denial cases, and more recently, appeals of agency determinations regarding Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Disaster Unemployment Assistance  appeals.

In her dual role as the director for DOL’s Hearing Office, she has been instrumental in modernizing forms and filing, publishing orders in the Commonwealth Register, and creating efficiency in hearing operations.
