Triple J Enterprises CEO and president Bob Jones yesterday told the Saipan Chamber of Commerce that negotiations are underway for three alternative locations.
“Weeks ago, we found that that the land owners in the area have issues to iron out and it is not possible for us to wait for months until these issues are resolved,” Jones said.
He did not disclose the alternative sites but said they will make an announcement when everything is finalized.
Sixteen landowners and heirs in the Tamat Beach area belonging to the Tamat-Cabrera clan opposed the housing project, saying they want to “protect the fragile coastline from being permanently damaged, and maintain the family-friendly public atmosphere that currently exists there.”
Jones said that some people are always inconvenienced when there are new development projects.
“But you have to decide if you are for development or not,” he added.
He said they encountered a similar situation at the Sandy Beach Homes project in Chalan Kanoa.
“We have inconvenienced some people who complained about the noise, dust, and other things but we do what we can to not disturb the neighbors,” he added.
Blue Water Homes and Sandy Beach Homes are funded through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
