During her time at Tinian Jr./Sr. High School, Atalig was involved in the JROTC program and was its battalion commander for SY 2016-2017.

She was an active member of the drill team, having commanded the unarmed color guard, unarmed exhibition, and unarmed regulation team. With hard work and dedication, she quickly rose through the ranks. Because of such admirable qualities, in her senior year, she earned the position of battalion commander.

Atalig finished basic training on Feb. 3, 2018, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. When asked about what she did during basic training, Atalig said she completed multiple marches, passed the Army Physical Fitness Tests, learned rifle marksmanship, practiced grenade throwing, completed the M249 qualifications and many more. She then underwent advanced individual training at Fort Lee, Virginia.

Her MOS is 27D. Atalig currently works as a paralegal specialist. She provides legal guidance to her command team and unit and assists judge advocates in efforts toward enforcing criminal justice in the United States Army. She is now stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Her company and unit are Headquarters, 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment.

As for advice for current and future cadets in JROTC, Atalig said: “[in] the Army basic, it’s all about being where you’re supposed to be at the right time and in the right uniform and doing what you’re supposed to do. As for training, just keep your head up and don’t let anything faze you. You’re the only person that’s can either bring you down or bring you to the finish line.”

It’s a wonderful thing to hear that you are doing stupendous, Jemimah! You have the right determination, confidence, and the will to excel in whatever you do. The Stallion Battalion wishes you the best on your journey. Hooah!
