MARIANAS Visitors Authority board member Jerry Tan emphasized the importance of close collaboration with the municipal leaders on Tinian and Rota to discuss how their local events and festivals can help boost the tourism industry.

Tan urged the MVA management to schedule a board meeting on Tinian and Rota at least once a year.

“If it’s possible we can have our board meeting during one of the festivals on Rota or Tinian,” he said, adding that MVA board should be there and show their support for both islands.

He said the municipal leaders on both islands would also appreciate an opportunity to discuss tourism issues with MVA officials.

Tan noted that the board meetings on Tinian and Rota last year were very successful.

MVA Managing Director Priscilla Iakopo agrees. “I think it is a good idea. It’s an opportunity for members of the community on both islands to see that we haven’t forgotten them.”

Iakopo said MVA continues to promote Tinian and Rota in the CNMI’s tourism markets.
