Zoning Board chairman Mariano Taitano said Castro, who served as director of the Division of Coastal Resources Management, will start reporting for work at the zoning office on March 25.

In the meantime, zoning field enforcement officer Yubert Alepuyo will remain acting zoning administrator.

“She is qualified for the position,” Taitano said, referring to Castro, adding that vice chairman Joe Ayuyu Jr., Tatiana Babauta, and Frank Aguon joined him in a final interview with Castro on Feb. 24.

He said Castro met the requirements for the zoning administrator position.

She is a former grants specialist in the Office of Grants Management under the Office of the Governor. She also served as a natural resource planner for the Division of Environmental Quality; a campus sustainability assistant at Seattle University; and an environmental protection assistant for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Seattle.

She graduated from Seattle University with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies with a minor in philosophy in 2008.
