THE senior citizens are now preparing for Older Americans Month in May, which will include the coronation of the Manamko’ King and Queen, Office on Aging Director Walter Manglona said.

There are three candidates for the 2020 Manamko’ Queen title while two are vying for the Manamko King crown.

Genia (also spelled Gina) Draper, the reigning Manamko’ Queen, is again joining the annual competition. The other candidates are Lucia Sardea and Eden Liwag.

Lito Asuncion and O’brien Tudela, for their part, will compete for the crown of reigning Manamko’ King George Zoller who has decided not to join the competition.

Manglona said the Senior Citizens Advisory Council, which organizes the annual competition, is asking the community to support the fundraising event.

Tickets are now available at the Saipan Senior Citizens Center at $5 per booklet, which has six tickets.

The grand prize is $500, the baby grand prize is $250, and the consolation prizes include gift certificates among other things.

“I would like to encourage our community to support our elderly to make them happy, active and healthy,” Manglona said.

The proceeds will help pay for the senior citizens’ special events, including the coronation night at the center on May 28, he added.
