(Press Release) — Our Common Wealth 670 supports House Joint resolution 21-8 which requests Gov. Ralph Deleon Guerrero Torres oppose any increase in military presence or training in the Northern Mariana Islands, including all proposed military use of the Northern Islands.

“As military planning continues throughout the Marianas, we are faced with the threat of unprecedented, irreparable damage to our lands, skies, waters, culture and livelihoods. This resolution calls for Governor Torres to oppose these practices and calls for greater transparency and communication between the government and CNMI residents when military planning occurs.”

The House of Representatives will meet this Friday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m. in the House chamber on Capitol Hill.

“Your presence to support the adoption of the resolution for the protection of our islands and our people amidst increasing militarization throughout the Marianas archipelago is requested. Written comments may be submitted on or before the meeting date. Oral testimony may be presented during the meeting.”
