SAIPAN World Resort is temporarily closing to mitigate the threat of the Covid-19 outbreak, according to the hotel’s public relations manager, Mike Babauta.

In an email, Babauta said: “It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the temporary closure of Saipan World Resort effective immediately as part of the CNMI’s efforts to mitigate the ongoing coronavirus outbreak to promote social distancing.”

But he assured the public and the hotel’s partners that it is only a temporary closure and that Saipan World Resort will be operational by the end of April 2020 “depending on the situation.”

“Saipan World Resort remains committed to our employees and we continue to provide work for our employees, with safeguards in place to curb social exposure,” he said. “While it is a difficult time for everyone, we are fully confident that our community will get through this crisis. Stay strong Marianas.”

Rep. Joseph Leepan T. Guerrero who chairs the House Committee on Commerce and Tourism, said he has been going around to check hotels.

“It is really hard that we are now being hit so hard by the threat of Covid-19,” he added

The CNMI’s only industry —tourism — is about to hit bottom, and it may take time for things to get back to normal, he added.

He said he hopes and prays that things will get better soon.
