THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s contract with Telesource CNMI Inc. for the operation of the Tinian power plant will end at the end of the month, but CUC has not yet finalized its invitation for bid.

Gary P. Camacho

CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho said CUC and Telesource are discussing “different options,” adding: “There are a number of things that have not been completed as required in the current contract.” He did not elaborate.

A CUC team earlier performed a condition assessment of the facility and equipment of the Tinian power plant.

Camacho said CUC is still working on the invitation for bid or IFB based on the conditions of the facility.

Asked about the possibility of extending the management contract of Telesource, Camacho said that requires the approval of both parties.

He said he will discuss the issue with the CUC board, adding that CUC managers, in collaboration with technical experts, are reviewing all the options regarding the Tinian power plant management.

CUC wants to sign a 20-year contract with the power plant operator who will be selected through the IFB process, he said.

Telesource can participate in the bidding process, Camacho added.
