BRIAN Lizama is accused of stealing a $500 flat-screen TV from Sunshine Garden Motel in Susupe.

Lizama, 48, was charged with burglary and theft, and appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo on Monday for a bail hearing.

Judge Govendo imposed a $10,000 cash bail on the defendant.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Lizama while Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government via teleconference.

According to the complaint filed against Lizama, he was seen by a witness climbing out of the window in one of the units at Sunshine Garden Motel and getting into a blue Toyota Yaris on March 19, 2020. The witness approached the vehicle and knocked on it, but the car driven by Lizama did not stop.

Police responded to the complaint at 9:47 a.m. on the same day.

At 2:55 p.m. in Dandan, police spotted a blue Toyota Yaris that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle including its license plate. The officers then conducted a violator stop.

They said Lizama was operating the vehicle, and when they conducted a search of the car they saw a black flat-screen TV in the backseat.

Lizama admitted to the police that he climbed into one of the windows of a unit in the motel at 3 a.m. and took a shower before taking a flat-screen TV out of the room and into his car. He went back to the unit using the same window and went to sleep. When he woke up it was already daytime. He said when he was leaving the room through the window, he saw a young male individual looking at him.

Lizama was arrested at 3:21 p.m. and transported to the Commonwealth Health Center for medical clearance before he was brought to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.

The defendant will return to court for his preliminary hearing on April 2 at 1:30 p.m., and on April 20 at 9 a.m. for his arraignment.
