THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board approved a one-month extension of payment due date for residential customers, CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho said.

“This will allow people to utilize their funds to where they feel is best,” he added. “This is the best way to assist families at this time.”

Camacho said the payment deferment option will be available for three months.

“But the assistance applies to only one month of utility charges,” he said.

He added that it was Gov. Ralph DLG Torres who asked the CUC board to look for ways to assist utility customers in the CNMI.

Camacho said the measure does not apply to commercial customers.

“For the time being, it is for residential customers only,” he added.
