THE Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. now has equipment that will upgrade its biosafety laboratory to level 3 so it can test and process high-risk pathogens.

On Monday, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Covid-19 Task Force Chairman Warren Villagomez received the equipment, parts and other supplies for Covid-19 response that were flown to the island by a chartered flight from the mainland U.S.

“What came in was CHCC laboratory supplies for building the lab to biosafety laboratory level 3,” Villagomez said in a phone interview. “We also received 25 ventilators and UV light as well.”

CHCC is now ahead of its schedule in upgrading laboratory capacity and enhancing Covid-19 testing in the CNMI, he added.

Villagomez said they expect to receive personal protective equipment or PPEs and other equipment on Wednesday.

The governor, for his part, said more ventilators will arrive next week.
