THE Rotary Club of Saipan on Friday distributed 175 care packages to community members affected by the Covid-19 crisis on island, club president Marcia Ayuyu said.

It was a drive-thru event, which was held at the pavilion in San Jose from 2 p.m., she added.

Seventeen club members assisted in the distribution of the care packages, each of which contained rice, noodles, canned goods, and butane canisters, Ayuyu said.

“We all practiced social distancing and it was a smooth drive-thru distribution,” she said, adding that the club spent $3,000 on the care packages.

Some club members also donated rice and face masks during the event, Ayuyu said.

Before the end of May, she said Rotarians will conduct another round of relief distribution for at least 200 people.

“I want to thank all Rotarians for their hard work on Friday,” she said. “It was hot, but we all came together for our community because we are in this together.”
