THE chair of the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation Committee on Judiciary and Governmental Operations, Rep. Joel Camacho, on Tuesday announced that a public hearing for five zoning board nominees will be held on Tuesday, May 19.

He said this will give members of the public ample time to prepare any written and/or oral statements voicing any concerns they may have regarding the reappointment of Joe E. Ayuyu Jr. and the appointments of Kevin Deleon Guerrero, Perry Inos Jr., Lee Dong Kyu, and Juan Wabol to the Commonwealth Zoning Board.

Camacho said the committee is still waiting for the drug test results from the nominees who are also required to submit other documents.

During the delegation session, Rep. Sheila Babauta said: “The Commonwealth Zoning Board is a very important board. Chairman Camacho served on the board, and they really are the gateway to harmonious development in our CNMI. I look forward to reviewing the documents.”

Delegation chairman and House Floor Leader Rep. John Paul Sablan emphasized the importance of expediting the process to collect and review any and all data or information regarding the nominees, adding that the delegation has only 30 days to act on these appointments.

According to the law, failure to act on a nomination within 30 days “shall be deemed an acceptance of the appointment.”
