THE Northern Marianas Housing Corp. is conducting a fair housing survey known as the “Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice,” or AI.

NMHC said the study is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, as a condition for the CNMI to receive federal housing and community development funds.

The purpose of the study is to determine whether the Commonwealth has barriers to fair housing in the rental and real estate markets, as well as the mortgage lending, insurance, and appraisal industry.

It will also examine private and public policies and practices that may lead to housing discrimination.

According to HUD, federal law prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, or disability.

Part of the AI process, NMHC stated, includes seeking the opinions of persons involved in the housing industry, including renters and homeowners, hence the purpose of this survey.

The agency encourages the community to participate in the AI to provide their personal opinions and experiences regarding fair housing in the CNMI.

Answers provided are anonymous and will only be reported in compilation with other responses.

The AI is said to take approximately 10 minutes to complete, and is accessible via https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CNMI_2020FairHousingSurvey
