TINIAN Mayor Edwin Aldan expressed his appreciation to Star Marianas Air for postponing the resumption of its inter-island flight service that was set for May 15.

He said Tinian’s municipal government needs more time to develop and implement a protocol for inter-island travelers.

Aldan said he had asked Star Marianas to postpone its inter-island flights for one week.

“As the mayor of Tinian, it is my duty to exhaust any and all measures to ensure the safety of our residents and to prevent Covid-19 from infecting someone on Tinian,” he said in a letter to Star Marianas.

The mayor is also “kindly asking the general public to continue to refrain from inter-island traveling if it is not necessary. Let’s continue to keep ourselves and each other safe,” he added.

On Thursday, Star Marianas president Shaun Christian said: “After consultation with, and at the request of various CNMI government agencies, we will be postponing the resumption of scheduled passenger flights. Our new target to start limited scheduled passenger operations is now May 22, 2020.”

Christian said the announcement does not affect the current operations of cargo flights, medical patient transfers, and Covid-19-related support flights.
