Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ price-freeze directive is still in effect. When it took effect March 5, the regular gas price was $3.93 a gallon while premium cost $4.38 a gallon.

Sen. Frank Cruz said people are not happy when prices of basic commodities are going up when the economy is down.

“Where are the people going to get money to pay for increasing costs especially when they were furloughed?” he asked.

Cruz said he can only hope that gasoline companies on island can make a better deal with their suppliers so the high cost of business will not be immediately passed on to the consumers.

“How can people recover from the crisis if they cannot even manage to pay for gas?” he asked.
