LIEUTENANT Gov. Arnold I. Palacios withdrew his nomination of a café owner to the Zoning Board a day after Steve Jang was appointed.

Public Law 1-8 provides that the lt. governor shall act as the governor “in the event that the governor is physically absent from the Commonwealth or unable to discharge his duties by reason of physical or mental disability.”

On July 1, 2020 when Palacios sent his letter to the Legislature nominating Ete Café owner Steve Jang to serve a two-year term on the Commonwealth Zoning Board, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres was in the  Northern Islands with Robert Arrington who was promoting the CNMI on his YouTube show, “Deer Meat for Dinner.”

Because the governor is still in the CNMI, Palacios notified the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation that he was withdrawing Jang’s nomination.

The Zoning Board still lacks three members.

Its recently sworn-in members are Joe Ayuyu Jr., Perry Inos Jr. and Kevin Deleon Guerrero. The two other nominees were Juan Wabol and Lee Dong Kyu. Wabol did not submit the required documents while Lee Dong Kyu is not a U.S. citizen.
