IT is the Attorney General’s Office that will select a medical examiner to perform an autopsy on the two homicide victims, Department of Public Safety spokesman Dre Pangelinan said.

Since the retirement early this year of Dr. Aurelio Espinola, the only forensic pathologist in the Marianas, Dr. Philip Dauterman, a pathologist of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., has been asked from time to time by DPS to conduct preliminary assessments in death investigations.

The bodies of Ria Na Lim, 43, and Lim Hua Choi, 53, were found in Rice Cake Best Food Restaurant in San Antonio on the morning of Dec. 13, 2019.

Lim was the operator of the restaurant while Choi was her employee. Both were shooting victims, DPS said. Police are not ruling out robbery as a motive in the case.

The family members of both victims are currently on island and the consulates of China and South Korea are communicating with DPS regarding any updates, Variety learned.

DPS, in a previous statement, said, “Individuals close to the victims told police that both victims always carried a shoulder bag with them.”

At the scene, police were unable to locate the shoulder bags.

One of the shoulder bags is white with a floral design and the other is black. Their brands are unknown.

DPS is asking the public to be on the lookout for these two shoulder bags. “If you notice the described bags in an unusual area or place, please do not hesitate [to] call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 664-9042, or if you wish to remain anonymous you may call the CNMI Crime Stoppers Hotline at 234-7272.”
