SHAWN Masga, a resident of Rota, has been charged with domestic violence: assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

He is accused of pushing his former girlfriend to the ground and then forcefully dragging her by her shirt.

Masga, 25, is also accused of arguing with another person that resulted in a physical altercation.

According to police, the incident happened on Christmas Day around 9:40 a.m.

Rota Department of Public Safety reported that the female victim was physically examined and treated for hand injury by Rota Health Center Dr. Francois Claassens.

Police said another person confronted Masga about the assault on the victim. A heated argument ensued resulting in a physical altercation between Masga and the other person, police added.

Masga and the victim were previously in a relationship and have a child together, police said.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $500 cash bail on Masga’s release after the defendant signed a $4,500 appearance bond on Friday.

At the bail hearing held at the Marianas Business Plaza, the government was represented by Assistant Attorney General Erin Toolan while Assistant Public Defender Jean Pierre Nogues was appointed by the court to represent Masga who is unemployed.

Upon posting a $500 bail, Masga would be released from jail and allowed to travel back to Rota, the judge said.

Masga was ordered to return to court on Jan. 2, 2020 at 9 a.m. for a preliminary hearing and on Jan. 6, 2020 at 9 a.m. for his arraignment.
