NINETY percent of the 247 classes at Northern Marianas College will be conducted online in the fall semester, which will begin on Aug. 17, 2020.

NMC Interim President Frankie Eliptico said only 10% of the classes will be conducted face-to-face or with a face-to-face feature.

The college will also discuss its plans for the fall semester with the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force and will seek a formal endorsement of the NMC plan.

To help prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus and to help ensure its students and employees’ safety, Eliptico said NMC has upgraded its campus facilities over the last few weeks.

NMC has installed plexiglass sanitation barriers at each office; retrofitted the service counters at the admissions, financial aid, and finance offices; and installed touchless faucets, flush kits as well as soap and towel dispensers.

In addition, NMC has installed floor markers and informational signs related to minimizing the spread of Covid-19.

For face-to-face classes, a maximum of 10 people — nine students and an instructor — only will be allowed in a classroom at any given time.

“For the classes that need to be taught in a face-to-face format, our facilities team continues to make essential upgrades to help keep our classrooms clean and Covid-free,” Eliptico said.

In addition, NMC will remind students and employees to perform self-screening measures at their homes before they come to the campus.

“We will  be sending daily emails to the NMC community reminding everyone to stay home if they exhibit Covid-19 or flu-like symptoms,” Eliptico said.

“All students, employees, and visitors must wear a face-mask at all times while on campus,” he added.

The college will roll back or scale down any reopening activities if the Covid-19 infection rate changes significantly, he said.
