(DPS) — On Thursday, Aug.13, 2020, at about 5:12 p.m., the Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child at Sugar Dock in Susupe. DPS Boating Safety and fire department medics were dispatched to the scene.

Witnesses in the area stated that they saw a child floating on his back with his head submerged underwater. A nearby fisherman jumped into the water, pulled the child to shore and laid him on the sand, and began conducting chest compressions. Witnesses told police that as chest compressions were being preformed the child coughed out water and continued to do so as he was placed on his side. After about 5 minutes the child finally took a breath of air. At this time medics arrived on scene and transported the child to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for close observation.

DPS highly encourages the public to call 911 anytime to report a crime or an emergency. Police officers are here to help you.
