THE Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.-Bureau of Environmental Health have allowed four private schools to reopen for in-person instruction.

BEH said these schools were inspected and are in compliance with the requirements for social distancing and sanitation: Isla Montessori, Eucon School, Mount Carmel School and Seventh-Day Adventist School.

In August, Northern Marianas College, Saipan International School, Saipan Community School, Grace Christian Academy and Brilliant Star Montessori were assessed and allowed to reopen for in-person instruction.

Since then, BEH said these schools have implemented additional measures to ensure safety in their classrooms.

In addition to markings that indicate the required six-foot distance, some private schools have installed plexiglass at each desk and a UV disinfecting system in each classroom, BEH said, adding that it will inspect two other private schools this week.

As for the Public School System, BEH is still waiting for its reopening plans for face-to-face instruction.

In an interview, Education Commissioner Dr. Alfred Ada said all PSS principals and teachers are working together in preparing their schools and  classrooms for the BEH inspection this month.

“The inspection is our guiding force. All our school staff are working hard to ensure compliance with the government’s Covid-19 safety regulations. We want to reopen especially for some selected students that need additional support through face-to-face instruction,” he said.

Although schools are encouraged to facilitate distance/online learning, the amended government emergency directives state that all public and private schools are permitted to resume in-person instruction and activities subject to the review and approval of their operation plans and site assessments to be conducted by the task force, CHCC and the Department of Public Works.
