(MVA) — In line with the Marianas Visitors Authority’s Sports Islands promotion of the Marianas, the weekly Saipan Morning Run kicked off Friday, Dec. 13, and will be held every Friday at 8 a.m. in the main tourist district of Garapan. Saipan Morning Run is jointly organized by MVA and Pacific Development Inc.

“Last Friday was perfect for the kick-off of Saipan Morning Run,” said MVA Managing Director Priscilla M. Iakopo. “We are looking forward to the growth of the event and more participants in the weeks and months to come. Everyone is invited to show up and enjoy the jog together.”

The 7.6K course starts at Grandvrio Resort Saipan lobby and runs through American Memorial Park, Outer Cove Marine, and Gov. Eloy S. Inos Peace Park before returning to Grandvrio. The inaugural run was led by instructors Ayano Braxton, a participant of numerous local races and Akiko Hagiwara, a former corporate team elite runner in Japan. The free event is open to visitors and residents and was joined on the first day by visitor and former Saipan resident Sakiko Eda and resident Floro S. Derexep.

“Ho! Ho! Ho! Hope you can keep up! It’s a ‘run’derful life during the holidays. Join us on Fridays for a healthy jog, and burn those caloreis,” said Gordon Marciano, managing director of PDI.

The weekly run aims to increase awareness of the Marianas as a sports destination. For more information, contact Masanori Takahashi of PDI at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., 322-8770 or 287-1196.
