THE seven clubs comprising  the Lions Club International Region 2 on Saipan joined the 35th International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday.

Region 2 chair Al Cabael said the cleanup activities were held in coordination with the Bureau of Environmental & Coastal Quality.

The clubs were deployed to different  beach areas, including those that they have “adopted” for regular maintenance, he added.

The Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club and the Saipan Mighty Dolphins Leo Club adopted Pakpak Beach in San Antonio; the Saipan Unity Lions Club and the Teen Unity Leo Club adopted Tanapag Beach; the Saipan Marianas Lions Club adopted Garapan Fishing Base; the Saipan Alliance Lions Club adopted Fiesta Beach; the Saipan Natibu Lions Club adopted Hidden Beach; the Saipan Centennial Lions Club adopted Hyatt Beach; and the Saipan Pacific Lions Club adopted San Antonio Beach.

“This is the first activity in which all the Lions Club in Saipan Region 2, participated,” Cabael said.

He said caring for the environment is one of the global causes of the Lions Clubs International.

“As residents of this beautiful island, it is everyone’s obligation to keep our environment, especially our beaches, clean, and in doing so, we are also giving a strong message to the younger generation to take good care of  nature,” he added.
