THE lack of personnel and equipment remains a challenge for the Division of Parks and Recreation its acting director Ray Sablan said on Sunday.

He said the division has 25 field personnel working on a daily basis in different areas of the island.

They trim overgrown vegetation, beautify and clean government facilities including restrooms, he added.

But some of the personnel have been furloughed and only three were reinstated recently, he added.

Early this month, he said burglars broke into the division’s office and stole equipment including a brush cutter.

However, despite the challenges, Sablan said the division continues to deploy its personnel regularly to  various job sites on island.

He said the cooperation of the community is very important in maintaining the cleanliness of the island as he asked beachgoers to dispose of their trash properly.

Sablan said the public should always help preserve the environment.
