THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp. will conduct a certification training program for its water and wastewater personnel, CUC human resources manager Vivian Santos said.

CUC received a grant of $135,000 from the U.S. Department of the Interior-Office of Insular Affairs for the training program.

Sixty personnel from the water and wastewater division on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will avail themselves of the program, Santos said.

But first, CUC will solicit bids from institutions that can conduct the training program.

“The training for the water division deals with chlorination, repair of water wells and other topics related to the water system,” Santos said. “The training for wastewater deals with water treatment, safety in the handling  of hazardous materials and other topics related to wastewater.”

Santos added, “This is a very extensive training program.”

There is no schedule yet for the training, but it will be conducted by groups so CUC operations will not be hampered, Santos said.

CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho said the training program will help update the skills  of the water and wastewater division employees.

“We’re always happy to find the ability to develop our local staff so they can provide better services to the community.”

Camacho said CUC will also reschedule the training sessions for its linemen that was postponed due to the pandemic.

The training is also funded by the Interior Department’s Office of Insular Affairs.
