(SCC) —  The Saipan Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce its first in-person general membership meeting or GMM since the onset of Covid-19 on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 at Hyatt Regency Ballroom.

SCC’s guest speaker for the event is Patrick C. Guerrero from the Office of the Governor-CNMI Public Assistance Office, who serves as the public assistance officer for Soudelor, Mangkhut, Yutu, and the governor's authorized representative for the CNMI’s Covid-19 response.

Guerrero will be presenting updates for on-going recovery projects, as well as how businesses can better position themselves to bid on CNMI government contracts.

The primary focus of the GMM will be to elect members to serve on the 2021/2022 board of directors. There are five open positions for the 2021/2022 SCC board. The chamber member ballot includes the following:

  • Ciara Ada, Xerox Corporation
  • James Arenovski, Island Training Solutions
  • David Bush, Hawaiian Rock Productions
  • Marcia Calvo, Calvo's Insurance Underwriters
  • Joseph Guerrero, Naked Fish Bar & Grill
  • Das Krishnan, Fiesta Resort & Spa
  • Kevin McCale, Docomo Pacific Inc.
  • Michael Sheu, Hong Ye Trading Co. Ltd.
  • Ron Smith, Angil Design Inc.
  • Janice Tenorio, IT&E CNMI
  • Shayne Villanueva, Assurance Brokers Inc. (Saipan)

Current serving their 2020/2021 term include Velma Palacios (IT&E CNMI), Mike Johnson (Deloitte Saipan), Alex Sablan (Century Insurance), and Glen Hunter (The Shack). Special thanks to Tyrell Pauling (Hyatt Regency Saipan) and Janel Pangelinan (Pacific Insurance Underwriters Inc.) who will be completing their service to the board of directors in December 2020.

All chamber member representatives will be given the opportunity to vote for their candidate of choice. Voting will take place online by emails to registered official representatives from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2 or in person at the GMM on Nov. 4. Number of votes is determined by company membership category (i.e., Category B, 2 Votes). Each representative will be able to vote for up to five candidates.  Your name must be listed as an official representative to cast your vote; SCC also accepts proxy votes with the submission of an official email and/or completed proxy form.

At the GMM, a plate lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin promptly at 12 noon. The luncheon fee is $25/Chamber member and $35/non-member.

Due to Covid-19 protocols, RSVP is required to attend the GMM. To RSVP,  visit https://tinyurl.com/NovGMM2020 or call the chamber office at 234-7150.
