SIS gallops past MHS JV

SAIPAN International School defeated the MHS Junior team, 27-18, to earn its third win on Tuesday in the PSS Boys High School Basketball League at the Marianas High School Gym.

MHS tried to pick up the pace with a tremendous effort in the first half but its players could not stop Ku Nishimara’s defensive effort and quick go to baskets, scoring six points in the first half.

With Nishimara starting slow in the second half, Steven Goodwin found his rhythm toward the basket as he helped his team keep a steady lead by scoring eight points. Nishimara and McDonald contributed with two points apiece.

MHS JV tried to remain in the game with Caruana and Barrera scoring nine points together. Unfortunately, with not enough time on the clock, MHS JV couldn’t pull through, giving SIS its third win, 27-18.

MHS Varsity overwhelms MCS 2, 49-18

MHS Varsity picked up defensive plays in the first half against Mount Carmel School 2 which could only score two points in the first canto. MHS Varsity gained a huge lead over the opposing team, 22-2, as the MHS Varsity players picked up their defensive tempo while Daryl Soriano caught fire with go-to baskets, dropping 11 points.

In the opening of the second half, MHS Varsity continued to outscore MCS 2. MCS 2 players Joshua Tenorio, Ohane Borja, and Derek Sasamoto tried to catch up by scoring a total of 14 points, but it wasn’t enough as MHS Varsity notched its third win, 49-18.
