THE CNMI National Tennis Team won majority of the Northern Marianas Sports Association awards on Wednesday night at Fiesta Report & Spa Saipan. Tennis stars Carol Lee and Robbie Schorr were named NMSA Male and Female Student Athletes of the Year, Collin Sinclair received the NMSA Male Athlete of the Year Award while their coach, Jeff Race, was named Coach of the Year for the fourth time.

“This is great!” Race said. “You can’t do it without the players — Robbie, Ken, Carol, Malika, and Sinclair. We work hard every year and it paid off in a big way.”

He added, “After coaching tennis for 30 years on Saipan and to see the CNMI flag next to our name, it makes me choke up — it brings a tear to my eye.”

The NMSA Male Athlete of the Year, Collin Sinclair could not make it to the awards ceremony as he was competing in a pro tournament in Florida. Sinclair, however, sent a video to NMSA to show appreciation to the island and all the support the community has given him.

“This was actually really special to me because my mom, Kathryn, also won this award in 2001,” he said. “So, this award is close to my heart. I would like to say thank you to the Northern Marianas Sports Association and the Tennis Federation without your support we wouldn’t be able to do what we did in Samoa. I would like to also thank my teammates; you guys are fantastic. I’m really honored to have the CNMI flag next to my name in all the tennis tournaments I played overseas. I’m really hoping to see everyone in 2021 for the Mini-Games.”

Also on Wednesday night, the CNMI National Team Team was named the 2019 NMSA Team of the Year.
