Hopwood, Mt. Carmel advance to soccer finals

MOUNT Carmel School and Hopwood Middle School trounced their respective opponents on Tuesday and will face each other in the finals of the 2020 PSS NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Against Saipan International School, Hopwood was led by Relucio and Hix. The two scored 7 of Hopwood’s 8 goals in the first half which ended with Hopwood way ahead, 8-0.

In the second half, Relucio went on another scoring spree with three goals while team mate Mary Joy Aniana contributed three more. SIS finally scored a goal at the 36th minute mark before Hopwood sealed the deal, 17-1.

In their match, MCS and Francisco M. Sablan Middle School went head to head for the other spot in the finals. MCS lead throughout the first half with Chavez scoring all the points for Mt. Carmel: a total of 4 goals. Her quick dribbling skills got her past FMS’ defender’s in every way possible as the first half ended with MCS in the lead, 4-0.

FMS played with more intensity in the second half until Chavez broke through the FMS defense to score another goal. FMS remained scoreless as Mt. Carmel won with ease, 5-0.

The championship game between Mt. Carmel and Hopwood will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at 6 p.m.
